Delores and William Brehm

Dee (Soderquist) graduated from EMU in 1952 with a major in special education-mentally impaired, and a minor in English. As an undergraduate, she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Theta Lambda Sigma, and participated in the Choral Union. She resides in Virginia with her husband, William, chairman emeritus of SRA International, an information technology provider to government and industry.

William received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from the University of Michigan and pursued a successful career in business, government, and public service. He served as assistant secretary of the U.S. Army under Presidents Johnson and Nixon, leading the improvement of Army management manpower and information systems, and also served as assistant secretary of defense under Presidents Nixon and Ford.

The Brehms established the Delores Soderquite Brehm Endowed Scholarships with gifts totaling $1 million. Their gift will help EMU attract top students in high-need areas of teacher education and provide tuition support for students studying in the area of cognitive impairment. The Brehms have also placed EMU in their estate plan for a bequest designation to support their scholarship fund.
